Screenings (2018)

On Thursday, February 26th,, 2018, I. P. Stanback Museum & Planetarium offered a screening and discussion of the award winning documentary, Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, a film directed and produced by noted filmmaker, Shola Lynch. The film provides the context for the pursuit and prosecution of radical feminist, academic, political philosopher, and social activist, Angela Yvonne Davis, who was exonerated of all charges associated with a fatal, botched, courtroom kidnapping in which weapons registered in her name were used. Davis’ outspoken socialism and communist sympathies played a significant role in her inclusion on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list in 1970. She remains an important voice for prison reform, and social change in America.

This film screening was made possible by a generous grant from the Gilda Lehrman Foundation and was part of the activities associated with the exhibition, Resistance, Reform, & Reasoning: The Orangeburg Massacre & Its Aftermath ~ 50 years Later, which was on view in the Museum’s galleries and featuring works by local and regional artists. The film screening and exhibition were free and are open to the general public.
